Project brief
During the internship at the GUMDESIGN design studio, I contributed to the design of a marble wall covering collection. The project involved combining Arabescato del Corchia with other high-quality materials. Once the slab dimensions were defined, a design process began in collaboration with local artisans to select the combinations and refine the product’s characteristics.
My role was to contribute to the collection's concept development, as well as to the creation of technical drawings and product renderings.
LINEE
Is a poetic yet functional collection that fuses marble with metal, offering a diverse array of materials and surface finishes. Designed to create vertical storage solutions, it transforms into elegant bathroom and kitchen shelves, sophisticated racks, or bookshelves for living spaces. Custom solutions cater to both residential and contract interiors.
Each metal component is laser-cut, hand-welded, and acid-etched with artisanal precision, seamlessly inlaid into the grooves of the stone, achieving a perfect union of craftsmanship and innovation.
PAROLE
Inside the container, metal shelves held thousands of stone samples, standing on edge like books in a library—an architectural and natural archive, both horizontal and vertical. This striking vision immediately inspired our first collection dedicated to architectural surfaces.
Vegetable-tanned leather, reminiscent of book covers, reinforces the richness of materiality, offering endless color combinations through an extensive palette. The small size of the “strips” allows for the repurposing of leftover fragments from larger processes, ensuring that no quality is lost—only enhanced by a deep commitment to sustainability.
TRAME
A decorative and functional collection that blends marble with willow to create unique vertical surfaces. Twisted elements, reminiscent of picnic baskets, define three-dimensional supports. The willow is expertly woven by skilled artisans, then carefully fixed into the marble and integrated into the stone panels.
ATTIMI
The observation of the territory, the Apuan Alps, and a deep appreciation for the preciousness of raw materials guide the design process. Like leaves from trees, numerous fragments of inlaid wood gently settle upon the subtly diamond-shaped surface of marble, honed as if shaped by the mountain waters.
The inlaid wooden essences create visual rhythms, offering the possibility to alter their geometric and material appearance. They evoke and lead us through captivating stories, journeys, and natural pathways.
STRATI
The stratification of the landscape, the mountains, and the focus on acoustic performance inspire the design process. Staggered surfaces are fitted with cork panels, creating a material and decorative texture shaped by the inherent qualities of the materials to form functional walls.
The natural and toasted cork generates a captivating visual rhythm, which, when combined with the processed marble, results in a harmonious, tactile, and visually soft final product.
